John L. Funk, age 87, resident of rural Willard, Ohio passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on January 29, 1927 in Republic, Ohio to the late Harold “Lester” and Muriel (Hassinger) Funk and had been an area resident the majority of his life. John served in the US Navy during WWII and was employed by the former B&O Railroad and later retired in 1983 from the Norfolk and Southern Railroad. He was member of the Delphi United Methodist Church and enjoyed raising horses and was a Cleveland Indians fan.
He is survived by his wife, Carleen (Reese) Funk whom he married on July 5, 1988; a son, Darwin (Denise) Funk of Monroeville; two daughters, Cindy (Bob) Stevens of Plymouth; Janet (Burdette) Robinson of Willard; nine grandchildren, Dawn, Scott, Ian, Afton, Jill, Kim, Jared, Abby and Stacey; twelve great grandchildren; and one brother, Dale Funk of South Carolina.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda Funk in 1988; and a brother, Donald Funk.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio on Monday, June 9, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Delphi United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Westerman officiating.
