Joseph James Joyce, age 85, of Willard, Ohio passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at his home. He was born October 18, 1925 in Bellevue, Ohio to the late James and Mary (Frank) Joyce. He is a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Willard, Ohio where he is a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is a lifetime member of the Willard Elks #1370 and a past member of the Willard Country Club. He was a former pipefitter journeyman for the B&O Railroad and was a former owner of J&J Recreation in Willard. He retired from R.R. Donnelley’s in Willard. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid story teller.
He is survived by his wife Ruth A. (Decker) Steinmetz Joyce, whom he married in 2000; daughter, Jolynn (Stan) Ware of Delaware, OH; 2 sons, David (Sue) Joyce of Willard and Bill (Christy) Joyce of Norwalk; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; 3 step-daughters, Sandy (Travon) Sexton of Hartford, CT, Susan (James) Bolen of Willard and Deborah (Pat) Thompson of Tomball, TX; step-son, Doug (Julie) Steinmetz of Willard; 8 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Geri Ware of Bellevue and Rosemary (Forest) Singhoff of Virginia.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Iris (Elgart) Joyce; daughter, Barbara Joyce; son, Jim Joyce and his parents.
Visitation will be Friday, March 11, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio. The funeral mass will be Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Willard, Ohio, with Fr. Stanley S. Szybka officiating.
