Mable Hicks, age 77, resident of Willard, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2008 in the University of Toledo Medical Center. She was born on August 1, 1930 in Floyd County, Kentucky to the late Jim and Lola (Howard) Shepherd. She lived in Kentucky as a young chilld. She moved to Michigan with her mother, father, brothers and sisters and resided there until moving to Ohio with her own family where she worked outside of the home for awhile and then became a homemaker and devoted caregiver to her sister, Marie Shepherd.
Mable was known throughout her family and friends as a wonderful cook along with being caring and nurturing. She enjoyed her flower gardens and sowed seeds not only in her gardens but also in her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Hicks, whom she wed in 1970; two sons, James Hicks of Willard, Stephen and Diana Hicks of Willard; 5 granddaughters, Jessica, Hannah, Brelyn, Bristin, and Brooklyn Hicks of Willard; 3 brothers, Clinton and Pat Shepherd of Michigan, Claude and Sharon Shepherd of Ohio, and Kanawha and Vickie Shepherd of Michigan; 4 sisters, Marie Shepherd of Willard, Cleo and Larry Cowgill of Michigan, Lonnie Swope of Michigan and Bonnie and Dick Sackman of Michigan; Many cousins, neices, nephews and a sister-in-law Anne Shepherd of Willard.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Lola (Howard) Shepherd; a son, Timothy Hicks; a sister, Catherine and Harmon Prater; a brother, Charlie Shepherd; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Swope.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 from 5:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 11:00 AM. No one commented…I’m sorry that I wasn’t strong enough to make it to the actual funeral and that all I could bare was the viewings. I hated how I had to say goodbye to you. I can’t come to peace with this, I hope you know that despite everything I love you and miss you and I hope that tear rolling down your cheek and the hand squeeze was your way of saying you loved me too. I miss you still…
