William T. Burkett, age 44, resident of Plymouth, passed away on July 1, 2005 at the MedCentral Hospital in Shelby. He was born on July 5, 1960 in Willard, Ohio to Eldon “Bumper” and Mary Jo (Ganzhorn) Burkett and had been a resident of Plymouth his entire life. He was a 1978 graduate of Plymouth High School, the Ohio Peace Officers Council in 1983, and Merits K-9 Academy with his dog Bandit in 1985. Bill was a former employee of R.R. Donnelly, an officer of the Plymouth Police Department for 22 years and for the past 14 years he was Chief of Police. He is a member of the First Lutheran Church in Plymouth, the Huron Co. Lodge of F.O.P., the Ohio Chiefs of Police Assc., and the Sons of American Legion. He also coached flag football in Plymouth and was a former volunteer fireman and E.M.T. in Plymouth.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Ritchie) Burkett, whom he wed on June 21, 1986; his son, T.C. Burkett and his daughter, Courtney Burkett both at home; his parents; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Pastors Greg and Sandy Burkett of Galena, OH, and David and Krista Burkett of Plymouth; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and David Egner of Plymouth; four brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended relatives and the officers of the Plymouth Police Department. He is preceded in death by a nephew, Chad Burkett.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth on Tuesday, July 5, 2005 from 2-4 and 6-9 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at the American Legion Hall, 112 Trux Street, Plymouth, Ohio, at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Sandy Burkett officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth, Ohio. In lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to the Burkett Children’s Trust Fund at the First Citizen’s Bank in Plymouth.
