Marilyn Jean Cok

Leave a message of condolence

Marilyn Jean Cok, 90, of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Celeryville, Ohio, went to be with her faithful Savior the morning of August 8, 2022. Marilyn was born July 16, 1932 and was the daughter of William and Lena Natte Sytsema.

She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Marilyn was the loving mother of four children. She also worked in the family business – owned with Cal’s brother Steve and cousin Ken Moll – a grocery store known as the Holland Market, in Willard, Ohio. After 45 years in business, they closed the market in February 1992. With the kids out of the house, and the Holland Market closed, Marilyn was finally able to retire (except for the numerous visits made by family and friends for special occasions and holidays). She was a faithful member of the Willard Christian Reformed Church.

She is survived by her four children: Joan & Harold Van Goor, Chris and Beth Cok, Curt and Janet Cok, and Mike and Kathryn Cok; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister Phyllis Moll; and sister Bette Faber. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Calvin Wade Cok; her parents; her brother, William “Bud” Sytsema; a sister, Maxine Sytsema Laarman; and a grandson, Timothy Van Goor.

Burial will be held privately in Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be donated to the Celeryville Christian School, 4200 Broadway Road, Willard, OH 44890. The Zaagman Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, Michigan and the Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio are assisting the Cok family with arrangements.
