Martha O. Cronau passed from this life at Mercy Hospital, Fairfield, Ohio October 18, 2005. Martha suffered a severe stroke on August 12th, and was in rehabilitation and doctors’ care every day until her death.
Martha was born in New Washington, Ohio 89 years ago. Her parents were Carl Albert Michelfelder and Emma M. Lutz Michelfelder. She was baptized on July 12, 1916. Martha was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church on May 3, 1931. Her future husband, John was also a member of that confirmation class.
Martha was married for sixty-five years to John J. Cronau, as they were wed on October 4, 1940. Rev. Paul Gerlach of St. John’s Lutheran Church conducted their wedding.
Martha is survived by her husband, John, her sister Dorothy Keiter of Columbus, two daughters Dr. Emily (Don) Spinelli of Detroit, Dr. Elizabeth (Tim) Hunter of Fairfield and granddaughter, Lisa Ann Spinelli. Survivors also include many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Martha was a caring homemaker in all of her residences from New Washington to Lexington, Kentucky, Indianapolis, Indiana, South Plainfield, New Jersey and Fairfield, Ohio.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, November 6, 2005 at 1:00 PM at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Washington, Ohio with Reverend Joseph Bartczak officiating. Secor Funeral Home in New Washington assisted the family with arrangements.
