The brothers Mike & Matt have been 2 of my best friends for many years, I was in San Diego visiting a fellow classmate Greg Long when I heard the news and we both were greatly saddened. Todd, Perma, Mark, Marcia & Matt I am sorry that I could not be there and it saddens me that you have to endure the pain of losing a wonderful son/brother like Mike. He was loved by everyone and he touched so many lives in a positive manner, he will live forever in our hearts till we are all together again. God Bless you all & strengthen you. Zenaphir Bond - Apr 13, 2008

You know they say God does not look at your bank account or your material possessions when your season arrives but what really matters are the lives you touched, encouraged, acts of kindness/concern and love shown..those things are what really counts and why we are really here for one another. How wonderful to have made a difference in every persons life God allowed to cross your path! Mike was all of those things to so many (smile). Mike’s 1st impression was all of the above and more to me in San Antonio, Texas! A good hearted man who truly loved life and lived as such. Shininger Family; Mom, Dad and family, I thank the Lord the Lord allowed me those moments with Mike and my Sister Patty. When I think of Mike, I smile because that is who Mike was to me. He will always be a blessing to so many. My heart is sad because of the hurt that we all feel but Mike still lives in those he touched every day!
May the Lord continue to Bless you and your Family and wrap his arms around you especially during this time in Jesus Name.
Zen Bond, San Antonio Texas

Lora Garcia - Apr 10, 2008

I didn’t know Mike other than he beamed with happiness when customers would greet him in the store. I met him one day while getting gas. It was a hot day and he handed me a pepsi and said, “here…it’s too hot to not have something to drink.” His kindness and laughter brought happy days to many and I am so glad I had those special little moments that taught me that there were still kind, friendly people here. He also turned me onto the radio station 100.9, “The Coast”.. he said it was the best station ever..now that’s all I listen to, thanks to Mike. What a sweetheart…he will be missed.
If others can carry on the kindness that he showed to people it would be the greatest gift he gave us!!!! So sorry for you loss.

Jerry (Wolfe) Lake - Apr 10, 2008

My son and daughter-in-law Jim and Susan Lake had nothing but wonderful things to say about your son. I have been gone from Willard a long time but get back to Willard often and always went to the gulf for lottery tickets. He indeed was an uplifting person. Perma, we talked this winter at one of the basketball games. My parents (Rich and Leona Wolfe) and your parents were long time friends and you have a wonderful family. My sincere sympathy at your loss.

Ed Mellott - Apr 9, 2008

Matt,
Please accept my condolences. The worst at being so far from home is not being there to offer support when a friend is in such deep sorrow. It is always difficult to lose a loved one, but when we lose a brother the sense of loss seems deeper. Perhaps the only solace is in all the memories, what affect he had on who we became and the qualities he had that we admired most, make us proud that they were our brother.
Hope you find some peace in the memories.

Chad&Stephanie Bruner & kids - Apr 8, 2008

We are daily visitors of the carryout, sometimes twice a day and one of us spoke to Mike everyday. It is going to be very hard to go in and not see his smiley face behind the counter or have him pop out of the back. Mike was a great person and was always wonderful to my children and they loved him as did we. I used to make Mike cookies every year for Christmas and he was relentless until he got them. I’m really going to miss that holiday cookie nagging. We are all going to miss you Mike. Our thoughts and prayers are forever with the family – God bless.

I was very shocked and saddened upon hearing about Mike. Mike and I were classmates, so I have known him for a long time. He was the nicest guy you would ever want to meet and he would do anything for anybody. I remember one day we needed air in a bike tire and Mike was outside at the station and came over and helped us, even paying the quarter! That’s just the kind of guy he was and he will truly be missed. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family and friends. God Bless.
