Dear kind friends: This morning, I was reading through the list of condolences and realized I should thank you for all the wonderful things you’ve said about Bob and for the encouragement you’ve given the kids and Jane and I. Bob was such a humble person. Neither of us could ever have imagined he was loved and respected by so many. At least a thousand of you came to tell him goodbye. Please don’t feel bad if you didn’t have time to wait. The Lord knows your heart. Flowers and food and blankets and gifts, so many I’m worried I won’t remember everyone that I should be thanked! We’re still reading through all the cards. Thanks to the many, MANY friends that crowded our home and kept us from feeling lonely. Thanks to the ‘angels’ who helped me make the tough decisions and ‘carried’ me through. Speaking of angels, never before have I actually ‘felt’ that others were praying for me. It was almost palpable! In his wildest dreams, Bob would NEVER have imagined he meant so much to so many. He was just as sweet and good as you thought he was. And handsome, too, don’t you think? I am so deeply sorry about your loss. Mr. Holmes was my Math teacher and he was such a great man. I loved listening to his stories and learned so much from him. God bless.

Dear Holmes Family,
I was shocked and very saddened to hear of Bob’s death. I just saw him at our 40th reunion this past August and enjoyed talking with him. He was always one of my favorite classmates. He was kind, honest and easy to get along with. I am sure he was a very beloved father and husband. My thoughts go out to you at this very distressing time.

Lisa and family, I was truely shocked to hear about Bobby. He and I were in the same class (1967)He usually sat behind me in almost every class as we were seated alphabetically. He was a wonderful person and a great friend. I enjoyed knowing him and watching him play basketball. I’m glad I was able to see and talk to him at the reunion. His love for life, family and God was evident every time I had a conversation with him. He was much loved and will be missed.

I am praying for the Lord to give you strength. It is hard to make sense of the loss of such a young person (As Only GOD Knows Why) but you will eventually stop focussing on the pain of “why so soon” and start really feeling the blessing of the time you did have. IT TAKES TIME!!!! The pain will not leave just soften to the blessings of all the love you will receive (from people you least expect sometimes.) The Lord and your family unity will sustain you!!!! My sincere sympathy. Bobby was my classmate. My sister, Karen Ewing, is your neighbor. I was fortunate to see him at the last class reunion. He looked so good. I’m glad to remember him that way, with a great smile on his face and always kind to everyone. We had good memories of high school.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I met Bob through him refereeing for me when I was the junior high athletic director. When I needed a ref I could always count on him. Great guy!

To the Holmes family: I am very saddened to hear of Mr. Holmes’s passing. I remember him as my math teacher back in 1979 and I always thought of him as the best teacher there ever was. He participated in the pumping of gas at the Marathon station when the gas station lowered the gas last year or the year before and that was the first time I had seen him since 1979 and I told him who I was and by golly he remembered me, Bless his heart. My prayers are with you.

I was saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. He was an awesome teacher. I had him as a teacher in 8th grade. I always appreciated his kindness he showed to ALL his students. God bless you all during your time of sadness. Remember to lean on JESUS for all your needs and he WILL supply them!

Cory, This is Kristy’s sister Nicole. I want you to know how truly sorry Nick and I are to hear of your fathers passing. I can only imagine what you are going through and I hope all the friends and family by your side reminds you of how truly loved you are. You are Matt’s dearest friend and he loves you truly. I cannot express on here how truely sorry I am about Bob’s passing. He was a great, GREAT man and one of the kindest people I have ever had the honor to know. As you know, the boys will miss him, I will miss watching him blow kisses through the window to Gavin and watching Braden help him with the yard work. Dear Holmes Family. I had Mr Holmes for 8th grade math–he was a wonderful teacher..he always had a smile and was so encouraging! As an adult, I looked forward to seeing him out and about, he always remembered his students and would make a special effort to stop and say hello and ask how we had been. Words cannot express how sorry we are for your loss as well as the loss we all feel at this time. Bob always has encouraged us all, no matter what the situation. He has always had good things to say about Ryan and made it a point to make sure we did the same. I know he loved and was so very proud of his family. My deepest condolences go to Bob’s Family and Loved ones. I have only seen Bobby once since I graduated from Willard High. I still remember how kind he was. He was a senior when I was a junior but he was still a terrific friend to this underclassman.
I was glad to hear of his relationship with the Lord. I look forward to seeing Bobby again.

On Wednesdays when it was my turn to cook for Awana, my son Mitchell would come and be sitting in the FLC doing his homework. Bob would always come over, look over his shoulder and help him. I have always appreciated that so much. Watching them work on his homework made me smile and I will miss that. Thanks to him for caring to help a student.

I am saddened to Hear about the Loss of Bob. I remember, he always got a discussion going at the Wednesday morning Bible Study at the Christian Alliance Church. Bob was an inspiration to me Bob will truly be missed.

Words cannot express how deeply saddend we were to learn about Bob’s death. You all have been so near and dear to our family and forever will be. Bob will be greatly missed. Not only was he one of our wonderful teachers he was a wonderful neighbor and it won’t be the same to not see him bright and early in the mornings working in the yard.

Lisa, I was so sorry to hear about Bob. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your children. My children thought a lot of Bob he was a great guy. He will be in heaven with my sister and they will watch over us all. I know your faith with help you get through the rough times ahead. I still can remember all the good times through high school. Dear Lisa and family, We are so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. We just got to know Bob over the past year. He was a great man. Our kids adored him. He spent several hours in the church gym working on basketball with them. When he would see them at the Willard basketball games he would always give them a dollar to buy a snack.
