Mildred Rothschild passed away early Sunday morning at the age of 91. Raised in Willard, Ohio, she graduated from Willard High School in 1933. From there she attended St. Vincent’s School of Nursing where she was the first Protestant president of the student body. After graduating from St. Vincent’s, Mildred moved back to Willard, married Lewis Rothschild, and worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years at Willard Hospital, where many of the staff fondly referred to her as “Battle Axe.” Her free time was spent with her family boating and fishing on Lake Erie and cheering on her beloved Cleveland Indians, Cavs and Browns. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars and lifetime Alumni Member of St. Vincent’s School of Nursing.
She is survived by her son Charles “Butch” (Phyllis) Rothschild of Plymouth, her daughter Debra (Lee) Fitzwater of Tallmadge, grandson Sydney (Cindy) Rothschild, granddaughters Cristy (Paul) Bruner, Jacelyn, Jennifer, Julie and Jessica Fitzwater and 7 great-grandchildren and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Lewis John Rothschild, her sister Eleanor Knauer, and her parents Charles and Elizabeth Smith.
No service will be held per Mildred’s wishes; a cremation will occur this week. In lieu of flowers of gifts, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or to the local charity of choice.
You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our
children this, the last best hope of man on Earth, or we will sentence them
to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. Ronald Reagan
