Richard Russell “Carp”/”Dick” Carpenter, age 75, of U.S. Rte. 224 W, Willard, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2004 at his home, following a lengthy fight with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born July 13, 1928 in New Washington and has lived all of his life in the Willard area. He graduated from Willard High School in 1946 and then went on to graduate from Ashland College (University). In 1952, he was on the Championship Football Team at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, while he was in the U.S. Army. He was a former baseball player for the New Washington Merchants. He was a retired teacher and coach, working at Townsend Twp., Marengo, Bloomville, Plymouth and Monroeville. He was a farmer and had worked the summers at the Railways Ice Co. in Willard. He was a former Richmond Twp. zoning board member. He was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and the Seneca County Parkinson’s Support Group. He was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Zetta (Buckingham) Carpenter, who he married June 11,1955; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Zane & Gigi Carpenter of Windsor, California, Russell (Woody) & Lisa Carpenter of Willard and Lance Carpenter of Willard; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Tami & Alec Thornton of Holiday Lakes and Vicki & Dan Jacobson of Concord Twp., OH; 8 grandchildren, Chad, Chelsea and Casey Carpenter of Windsor, California, Tyler, Rob and Marie Thornton of Holiday Lakes and Morgan and Lauren Jacobson of Concord Twp.; sister and brother-in-law, Belva & LyleDawson of Willard.
He is preceeded by his parents, Russell and Alice (Cress) Carpenter and a sister, Bonnie Stiefel.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard. The Funeral Service will be Wed. at 2:00 P.M. at the Richmond United Methodist Church with Rev. Joseph Burkhardt officiating. Memorials may be made to the Richmond United Methodist Church.
