Richard F. “Dick” Helms, age 78, resident of Plymouth, Ohio passed away on Friday, November 29, 2013 at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby, Ohio from lung cancer. He was born in Fairmont, West Virginia, a son of the late Horace and Hester (Poling) Helms. Dick served his country over 24 years and retired from the US Air Force where he was an air traffic controller. After moving to Plymouth, he enjoyed serving several terms on the Plymouth Village Council.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret “Peggy” (Lau) Helms; their ten children, Gene and Carol Helms of Austin, TX; Terry Helms of Grand Isle, ME; Paul Helms of Saranac, NY; Debbie and Bruce Hollopeter of Grampian, PA; Sharon and Dan McGehee of Kyle, TX; Don and Susan Helms of Hummelstown, PA; Steve and Terri Helms of Findlay, OH; Peggy and Ed Gwirtz of Bucyrus, OH; Susan and Jeff Cok of Chester, SC; John and Sarah Helms of Plymouth, OH; twenty four granchildren and expecting another; ten great grandchildren; and a brother Jack Helms of New Jersey.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth, Ohio on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
