Robert Nicol Cornell, age 88, resident of Greenacres, FL and former Plymouth resident, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2005. He was a 1935 graduate of the Plymouth High School and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Plymouth. He was a butcher by trade, starting in the family grocery in Plymouth, and then at Nebraska meats and finally at Hey Mr. Butcher, in Boynton Beach, before retiring in 1979. He was a US Army veteran serving at Fort Stevens, OR in a submarine mine battery during WWII. Mr. Cornell was raised a Master Mason in 1940 and was a Past Master in Richland Lodge #201 F&AM, in Plymouth. He transferred his membership to Lodge #350 F&AM in Shelby, Ohio, where he was a Royal Arch Mason Chapter #178 and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason in Valley of Lake Worth, Florida. He was also a member of the American Legion Ehret Parsel Post 447 and a charter member of Friends of Old Fort Stevens, Hammond, OR.
He is survived by one sister, Harriett Ramona Kinsell of Plymouth; one sister-in-law, Wilma J. Cornell of Plymouth; god-children, John (Mary) Fetters of Columbus and Judi (Richard) Guy of Columbus; many nieces and nephews; and many great and great great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Isabelle Cornell who died in 2000; his parents; and five brothers, Arthur B., Weldon L., Gene F., Richard, and Lawrence “Pete” Cornell.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church in Plymouth at 11:00 AM with Rev. Linda Heinaman officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth, with military graveside honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407. Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth, Ohio assisted the family with arrangements.
