Verna Mae Newmeyer Blum, age 71, resident of Willard, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at her home following a short illness. She was born on September 16, 1940 in Richmond Twp., Huron Co., Ohio to the late John and Bertha (DeWitt) Newmeyer and had been a Plymouth/Willard resident all her life.
She retired from the former Pioneer Rubber Company in Willard, had worked at the Willard Country Inn and helped at her favorite restaurant, Uncle Dudley’s, with catering at the Attica Fair until her retirement. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Willard, enjoyed bowling, playing cards with friends, putting puzzles together, reading newspapers and cooking with her family. She treasured the Christmas season and was an avid collector of Santa Claus memorabilia.
She is survived by her companion, Jim Jones; a son, William Blum; and a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Chris Stephens all of Willard; three grandchildren, Heidi Blum of Attica; Aaron Stephens of Fremont; and Darren and Amanda (Stephens) Ward of Willard; five great grandchildren, Kylie Thornsberry; Elijah Riggs; Gavin Hargis; Kennedy Stephens; and Zayden Ward; a sister, Janice DeWitt; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest C. Blum in 1995; a sister, Phyllis Newmeyer; and a half brother, John Newmeyer.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio on Sunday, March 25, 2012 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 AM with Reverend Roger Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven, Ohio.
