Anthony Joseph McCarthy Jr., age 75, of New Washington, passed away Wed., Jan. 2, 2008 at the Bucyrus Community Hospital in Bucyrus, Ohio. He was born Sept. 2, 1932 in Cranberry Township, Ohio and has lived in New Washington all of his life. He was a patient at the Heartland of Bucyrus for the last 14 months. He was a member of the New Washington United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict, where he was a tank commander. He was a life member of the New Washington V.F.W., Post 6355, where he was commander for 20 years. He was also a life member of the New Washington American Legion, Post 405. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and working in his flower and vegetable gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Eyleen (Eckstein) McCarthy, whom he married March 18, 1955; son and daughter-in-law, Joel (Emeri) McCarthy of San Diego, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Joy (Frank) Ball of Rome, OH; 4 grandsons, Frank (Barb) Ball of Willard, Jason Ball of Rome, OH, Anthony and Adam McCarthy of San Diego, CA; 4 step-grandchildren, Phillip, Ulyssis, Victor and Abigail Relos, all of San Diego, CA; 3 step-great grandchildren, Joseph Relos of San Diego, CA, Ashley Howell and Ryan Stumbo of Willard; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom (Mary) McCarthy and Jack (Linda) McCarthy of New Washington; 4 sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann (Dick) Painter and Joan (Wayne) Ziegman of Fostoria, Judy (Melvin) Shell of New Washington and Eileen (Gary) Utiss of Willard; numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Joseph Sr. and Mary Inez (Fetzer) McCarthy; sister, Margaret Fogleson and daughter-in-law, Luisa (Socito) McCarthy.
There will be a memorial service Sat., Jan. 5, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the New Washington United Methodist Church, where there will be a time to meet with the family from 10:30 to 11:00 A.M. Rev. Pamela Sayre will officiate the service. Burial will follow at a later date at the Union Cemetery in New Washington, OH. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the New Washington United Methodist Church or to the donor’s choice.
