Clara Rowena Harrer was born in Findlay, Ohio on September 16, 1917 and deceased at the Arlington Care Center, Newark, Ohio on Monday, October 15th, 2007 at the age of 90 years, 0 months and 30 days. Rowena was the daughter of Charles W. Baird and Leona S. (Carder) Baird.
Rowena was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a committed Christian as attested by her well worn Bible and her love for others. She was a retired employee of Marathon Oil of Findlay, hard working farm wife, and accomplished piano teacher. She was a member of the New Washington United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, participated in and directed the church choir, worked with the United Methodist Women, played the piano/organ and served faithfully.
Rowena’s life was surrounded by her love and concerns for her family as she followed her children’s lives, served as chaperone to school functions, helped with 4-H projects, Science Fair projects, active with the Farm Bureau plus her community activities including her work with the Children’s Services Board and the Board of Elections. Her most beloved hobby was her time with her piano and reading her Bible and other Christian books.
Rowena is survived by her two children: Carole L. (Steven) Osborne of Newark, Ohio and David H. Harrer of Peoria, Illinois; two grandsons, S. David Osborne and Andrew S. Osborne, both of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Gerald (Marie) Baird of Florida and C. Lloyd Baird of Findlay and one sister, Marilyn Wise of Gahanna, Ohio; and numerous other family members and loyal friends.
Rowena is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Wellington Harrer; her parents and two brothers, Ralph Baird and Robert Baird, both of Findlay.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington, Ohio on Thursday, October 18th from 2 to 4 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M. A Celebration of Life Remembrance Service will be held on Friday, October 19th at 11:00 A.M. at the New Washington United Methodist Church with a graveside observance following at the Union Cemetery, Sulphur Springs, Ohio. Dr. Steven D. Osborne of the Vineyard of Licking County, Newark, Ohio and Rev. Pamela Sayre of New Washington, OH will be officiating.
