In 1942, she and Robert Reed, also of Willard, were married at Trinity Lutheran Church and moved to Chicago, where Bob began his career as a metallurgical engineer. Bob’s work took the family to Pittsburgh, to Connecticut, and finally to Youngstown, New York, where they lived for nearly 30 years. They were active members of the Niagara Falls Country Club, where Garland’s passion for golf grew. Garland was a loyal member of the Lutheran Church throughout her life and, along with Bob and her two sons, was an avid Ohio State football fan.
