George F. Strohm, age 79, resident of New Washington, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 21, 2007 in James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on February 22, 1928 in New Washington, Ohio to the late Fred and Rosa (Feichtner) Strohm and had been a resident of New Washington all of his life. He was a US Army Veteran. He served 18 months in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington. Mr. Strohm worked for S.J. Kibler and Sons for 27 years then worked at the New Washington Herald until he retired in 1998. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed camping and loved being around people. He spent alot of his days helping other people. He liked taking walks and visiting with people and pets along the way.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Strohm, whom he wed on September 25, 1954 at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in North Auburn, Ohio; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Steve & Pam Strohm and Jeff & Angie Strohm of New Washington, Dan Strohm of Connersville, IN, Tim & Lori Strohm of Ontario, Ohio, and Dave & Vickie of Galion, Ohio; six granddaughters, Brooke, Courtney, Tori, Megan, Chelsea, and Melissa Strohm, a grandson, Shane Strohm, a step grandson, Chris Johnson; three sisters, Lulu Gearhart, Lillian McDougal, and Ethel Reed; and four brothers, Kenneth, Weldon, Edgar, and Forrest Strohm.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Rosa (Feichtner) Strohm; and three brothers, Marvin, Orlo, and Loren Strohm.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 from 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 10:30 AM at the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in New Washington with Father Robert Dendinger officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date. Memorial expressions may be made to St. Bernard’s Endowment Fund or to the donor’s choice.
