John G. Gillum, age 73, of Free Road, Shiloh, passed away Monday, August 7, 2006 at his home. He was born Dec. 29, 1932 in Carter County, KY to the late Dora Gillum and had been a resident of the Shiloh area since 1950. He was a member of the Rome Community Church. He retired as a welder in 1998 from Design Metals in Mansfield He loved gardening, playing with the grandchildren, going to their sporting events and fixing anything that needed fixed. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during peace time.
He is survived by his wife Gayola (Blankenship) Gillum, whom he married January 12, 1957; two sons and daughters-in-law, David R. and Diane Gillum of Shiloh and Gregory A. and Jody Gillum of Pickerington, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, Joseph, Steven, Leah, Rebekah, Tyler, Philip, Tanner, John, Myriah, Deborah, Sarah, Hannah, Ethan, and Matthew; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Arlin and Alice Wright of Hopkinsville, KY, Darrell Wright of Winchester, Ohio and Larry and Pam Wright of Hamilton, Ohio; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jo and Roger Frost of Winchester, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceeded in death by his mother, Dora Gillum.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2006 from 5-9 PM and on Friday, August 11, 2006 from 9:00 – 10:00 AM at the Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth, Ohio. Funeral service will be held on Friday at the funeral home at 10:30 AM with Pastor Steven Baldridge officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh, Ohio.
