John J. Snyder, age 94, resident of Shenandoah, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2005 in Hillside Acres Nursing Home in Willard. He was born on February 4, 1911 in Hicksville, Ohio to the late Jacob and Lillian (Kisabeth) Snyder and had been a Shenandoah resident the majority of his life. A 1928 graduate of Willard High School, Mr. Snyder was a retired farmer, a 30 year employee of the Norwalk Trucking Line and had worked at Malabar School. He attended the Shenandoah Christian Church where he was grounds keeper for many years and a was a member of the Teamsters Local #40.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Jane (Backensto) Kissel Snyder who he wed August 28, 1982; four daughters and three son-in-laws, Carole Pickworth of Lebanon, OH; Pat and Bruce White of Vermilion, OH; Jeri and Ron Akermann of Ashland, OH; and Sue and Earl Lynch of Shelby; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John II and Linda Snyder of Coshocton, OH; two step daughters and son-in-laws, Mary L. and David Motter of Shenandoah; Janet K. and Lloyd Shorter of Lancaster, PA; 12 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 14 step great granchildren and one great great granddaughter.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen (Egner) Snyder in 1977, who wed married January 3, 1931; one grandson, Josh Snyder; a son-in-law, Gordon Pickworth; one step son, Harold E. Kissel; one step daughter, Judy Marie Kissel; and two step grandchildren, David L. Motter II and Lloyd G. Shorter Jr.
Funeral services will be held at the Shenandoah Christian Church in Shenandoah, Ohio on Thursday at 11:00 AM with Tom McFadden officiating. Calling hours will be private and friends may arrive at 10:30 AM at the church. Burial will follow in the Shenandoah Cemetery. Memorial expressions can be made to Shenandoah Christian Church. Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth, Ohio assisted the family with arrangements.
