Martha L. Jacobs, 80, of Xenia, OH passed away Sunday, October 5, 2008, at Greene Memorial Hospital. She was born December 3, 1927, in Willard, OH., the daughter of the late Henry and Lydia (Henitz) Gill. She grew up in Willard where she attended elementary through high school. She was a member of the Willard High School Class of 1947. She lived in Willard until 1958, when she and her family moved to Mobile, Alabama. In 1960, her family moved to Xenia and made it their home to the present date. She was a homemaker and worked part time at General Electric in Bellevue, and at General Motors in Sandusky. In Xenia, she worked for the Xenia Public Schools in the cafeteria at Central Junior High School and Xenia High School. She was employed with V.I.I. and delivered electronic parts throughout Xenia to company employees who worked for the company in their homes. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Xenia, where for 16 years she was a volunteer at The Caring Place every Thursday evening. She also helped tutor church-sponsored Vietnamese refugee families. She was also an active member of the Spring Valley Senior Center. She had numerous hobbies which included; craftwork, cooking, sewing, needlepoint, and she was musically talented, playing various instruments, and was an acrobate and drum major in her high school years.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Richard Jacobs from Willard, whom she married August 18, 1946, twin daughters and sons-in-law, Diana Lynn (David) Tingley, Springfield, and Deborah Lee (Fritz) Nolting, Seguin, TX., a brother, Jack Gill, Willard, OH, a niece, Lori Sue Gill, Dayton, a nephew, Barry Gill, Stockton, CA., a sister-in-law, Marguerite Jacobs Quinton, Willard, seven nieces and one nephew on the Jacobs side of the family, and thousands of dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Vincent and William (Billy) Gill.
Services will be held at 10:30am, Thursday, October 9, 2008, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Xenia, with Rev. Tom Batterman officiating. A gathering of friends and family for a luncheon will immediately follow the service at the church. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Wednesday, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, and from 9:30-10:30am, Thursday, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
A graveside service with Pastor Brian Peltomaa will be held at 10:30am, Monday, October 13, at Greenwood Cemetery, Willard, OH handled by Secor Funeral Home, Willard, OH. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Caring Place, c/o First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 287 W. Main St., Xenia, OH., 45385.
