Martha E. McQuate, age 72, resident of Shelby, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2006 in Crestwood Care Center in Shelby, Ohio. She was born on April 23, 1933 in Armstrong County, Pennsylvia to the late Walter and Netti (Barnett) Porter. She had been a Shelby resident for the past 37 years. Mrs. McQuate had worked at the former AMF in Shelby, the former McQuate Furniture Store in Plymouth, the Shelby V.F.W. and most recently Alice’s Bake Shop and Restuarant in Shelby. She is a member of the Mt. Hope Lutheran Church in Shiloh and was a volunteer with many community organizations around Shelby. She is a member of the Shelby V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary where she was a very active member and was a Past Distict 10 President.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Halsey of Kennewick, WA; two sons, Jim McQuate and Robert McQuate both of Shelby; five grandchildren, Chris Porter of Kennewick, WA; Katrina McQuate of Mansfield; Rob Nelson of Mansfield; Courtney McQuate of Shelby; Melody McQuate of Lexington; four great grandchildren, Luke and Ryan Nelson; Shawn McQuate and Hunter McQuate; two sisters, Alice Rundels of Lewisville, TX; Jan West of Shelby; two brothers, Chuck Porter of Shelby; John Porter of Yuma, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan McQuate in 1994; a grandson, Coty McQuate; a sister, Dorthy Shaffer; a brother, Robert Porter; and an infant brother, Ronald Lee Porter.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth on Tuesday from 5-8 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 AM on Wednesday with Rev. John Wanamaker officiating.
