Richard C. Cavalier, age 76, resident of Willard, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2005 in St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. He was born on December 19, 1928 in Attica, Ohio to the late Denver and Mary (Featheringill) Cavalier and had been a life long Willard resident. Mr. Cavalier was a graduate of Willard High School and a retired car mechanic from the B & O Railroad. He is a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Willard, a life member of the VFW Post #3430, a 52 year life member of the Americian Legion Post #514.
He was very active in the Legion having held the offices of: at the post level; Post Commander, First Vice Commander, Second Vice Commander, Chaplain, Post Adjutant for 25 years, Post Honor Guard; at the county level, County Commander, President of Huron County Joint Veterans Council and Huron County Chaplain; at the district level, Second Vice Commander, First Vice Commander, Fifth District Commander, Past Commander, Judge Advocate, Chaplain, and Finance Officer; at the state level, Asst. Sgt. at Arms; at the national level, Member of National Security Committee. A veteran of the US Army he served during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by two sons, Charles and Stephen Cavalier both of Willard; four daughters and son-in laws, Carolyn and John Garcia of Norwalk, Ohio, Joanne Cavalier and Clint Hall of Willard, Julie and Jeff Morey of Willard, and Patricia and David Keefer of Willard; seven grandchildren, Laura Seidel, Jennifer Cavalier, Michael and Rick Featheringill, Rebecca and Lewis Keefer, and Kelsey Morey; two sisters, Lois Anderson and Marian Robinson both of Willard; one aunt, Mary Jayne Van Buren of Willard; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his wife on February 15, 2004, Doris M. Cavalier, whom he wed August 26, 1950; his parents; two brother, Mike and Harold Cavalier; two sisters, Dorothy Tanner and Patricia McKenzie.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM where a vigil service will be held at 8:45 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Melvin Verhoff officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Willard. Memorial expressions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
