Robert “Bob” P. Sheibley, age 74, lifelong resident of New Washington, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 21, 1949 in Bucyrus, Ohio to the late L. Paul and Ruth (Pauly) Sheibley.

Bob attended St. Bernard Catholic School through the eighth grade and was a 1967 graduate of Buckeye Central High School. Bob began his early career at R.R. Donnelly and Co. and The Herald Printing, Inc. Bob spent the bulk of his career in the Air National Guard, 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield, OH.  He began working in the Aircraft Engine Department and was deployed many times.  He especially enjoyed his time working at the Howard Air Force Base in Panama.  Bob was known for his hard work, attention to detail and keen ability to spot inefficiencies in workflow resulting in several patents.  Bob retired from the Quality Assurance Department as an aircraft propulsion expert and rank of Master Sergeant after 32 years of service. Bob’s commitment to accuracy and precision were accompanied by his ability to bring humor to any situation. This made him well respected and loved by his peers. He continued to use the talents God gave him and enjoyed a second career as a mechanic for Studer-Obringer, Inc. in New Washington, where he worked for 22 years.

Bob was a devout Catholic and lifelong member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington, where he served in many roles. He loved fishing at the Sheibley family pond, watching his children and grandchildren’s sporting events, and was an avid NASCAR, sprint car and super modified racing fan.

Bob never met a stranger and loved making others laugh. His ability to fix anything from a “blow dryer to a dump truck”, combined with his willingness and desire to serve others, benefited everyone who knew him.  He was a humble servant-leader who found the most joy in quietly helping others, and he did this to the end.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Christine (Studer). Bob and Chris were blessed with 5 daughters: Shelli (Phil) Loy, Claire (Bryan) Paul, Stephanie (J. Ryan) Kantzer, Tricia (Dave) Kirgis and Emilia Sheibley (deceased 11/22/2009); grandchildren, Grant and Max Loy, Tyler and Brady Paul, Ryley, Liam and Harper Kantzer, and Nolan, Elijah and Lydia Kirgis. Also surviving are Bob’s siblings, Gene (Marian) Sheibley, Susan Sheibley and Tom (Sharon) Sheibley; father-in-law, Clarence Studer; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kathy Cole, Sandra Kaple, Judy (Roger) Auck, and Andy (Melanie) Studer as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and daughter, Emi, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Tim Sheibley; mother-in-law, Lucille (Berrier) Studer; and brothers-in-law; Dennis Studer and Rodney Cole.

Visitation will be held in St. Bernard Hall on Friday, April 19, 2024 from 4:00 PM -7:00 PM with the rosary recited at 8:00 PM. His funeral mass will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 10:30 AM. Contributions can be made to: BC Athletic Boosters – Zeigler/Sheibley Athletic Scholarship Fund; to mail, please send to: Buckeye Central School, 938 S Kibler Street, New Washington, Ohio 44854, Attn: Athletic Boosters. Dear Chris and family, Chacha and I are truly saddened to hear of Bobby's passing and please accept our deepest sympathy. I am so proud to call him my cousin. He is one of a kind and will be missed by all who knew him. But we know he is enjoying his just reward and waiting with Emi to see the rest of us again someday. We regret that living in California and now Mexico did not allow us to spend more time with you. Our short visits with you and family were the highlight of our infrequent visits back home. We all send our prayers you way.

When I think of Bob, the first word that comes to mind is family, Not just his immediate family, but the family he created by caring so deeply for others. There are no words that will mitigate your current grief, but the memories of your time with Bob. will soften the hardship. You, your immediate family, the Buckeye Central family, and all who knew Bob are in our prayers.

What a loss of a great friend and community hero. Bob was the last to leave any event taking care that all the details for setup and cleanup etc. were completed. May your strong faith and the love of family and friends be of comfort to you at his time. God Bless.
