Ruth Sage, age 92, resident of Willard, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 2004 at Hospice of Dayton, in Dayton, OH. She was born on May 30, 1912 to the late Walter and Emma (Lutz) Willford and had been a resident of Willard since 1955. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Willard. She graduated from New Washington High School in 1930 and Bowling Green State College in 1934. She was a school teacher in the Willard School System for 20 years and the New Washington School System for 7 years. She was a member of the Huron County Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Ohio Geneology Society in Huron and Crawford Counties. She was a member of the Indiana Geneology Society in Howard County. She was a member of the Willard Historical Society. In 2002 Mrs. Sage was the Huron County Senior Citizen of the Year. She knitted hats for Newborns in Need of Newark, Ohio and the Abigal Society at the Willard Hospital.
She is survived by one son and two daughters-in-laws, Roger and Mary Jo Sage of Cincinnati; and Barbara Sage of Galion; two daughters, Susan Sage and her partner, Jeanne Tayloe of Huber Heights, Ohio and Margaret Tubaugh of Zanesville, OH; four grandchildren, Alison Yazell, Aaron Sage, Carrie Tubaugh and Molly Tubaugh; one great granddaughter, Leah Sage. She is survived by a family friend, Cathy Wine. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles David Sage; her parents, one son, David Sage; one grandson, Matthew Sage; and her sister, Mary Schaaf.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 P.M. at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard, where the funeral service will be Friday at 3:00 PM with Rev. Kent Wilson officiating. Burial will be at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Washington. Memorials may be made to the New Washington Library or to the Hospice of one’s choice.
